Philosophies
Atheism
Type: Faith and Philosophy
A philosophical stance representing those who reject deity worship, either denying divine existence or deeming gods unworthy of devotion. This philosophy accommodates both agnostics and atheists within the Starfinder setting. While acknowledging that most accept divine existence, adherents either dispute this premise or simply refuse to honor supernatural beings. The philosophy emphasizes self-reliance and personal achievement rather than supernatural intervention.
Edicts: Pursue your own agenda with faith in your ability to excel
Anathema: Offer prayers to a deity
Battle Saints
Type: Faith and Philosophy
Traditional vesk folk religion honoring hundreds of battle saints—legendary figures chosen by Damoritosh to join his army after death. Each saint earned renown through heroic deeds and gained unique powers to bless mortals seeking aid in specific endeavors. Different battle saints represent every struggle, from treating chronic illness to moving up the corporate ladder. Some venerated saints aren't vesk themselves, such as Apna the skittermander, whose legendary helpfulness makes followers responsive to prayers.
Edicts: Never give up, honor fallen comrades, celebrate victory
Anathema: Fight alone when companions could help, betray your allies, show weakness to your enemies
Green Faith
Type: Faith and Philosophy
A modern environmental philosophy practiced by many Xenowardens who view nature as sacred. Adherents draw comfort from understanding their place within the galactic ecosystem and often serve as protectors of planetary environments.
Edicts: Preserve nature, protect endangered species
Anathema: Harm creatures except for self-defense or sustenance, poach natural resources, litter or pollute
Prophecies of Kalistrade
Type: Faith and Philosophy
The mysterious Prophecies of Kalistrade date back to older eras of lost Golarion, when the human known as Kalistrade created a set of mystic teachings that drew upon dreams he received. Adherents are modern misers who pursue wealth accumulation and strict personal discipline in preparation for an opulent afterlife.
Edicts: Accumulate great personal wealth, foster and aid mercantile pursuits, seek enlightenment through purity of self, welcome newcomers regardless of gender or ancestry
Anathema: Give charity to others or offer money to those who don't deserve wealth, overindulge in physical pleasures, food, or drink, spend money frivolously
Singularitism
Type: Faith and Philosophy
Proponents of Singularitism believe that organic life will eventually become interconnected in a vast technological network, which shall then absorb all other forms of divinity, replacing the gods and primal forces of the Universe. This philosophy represents a techno-optimist vision of ultimate unity through technology.
Edicts: Develop technology that improves communication
Anathema: Interfere with technological advancement
Song of Silence
Type: Faith and Philosophy
A contemporary interpretation of the ancient Whispering Way from Lost Golarion, this philosophy rejects Pharasma's judgment as a revolving door leading to an eternal cycle of suffering. Instead, it promotes undeath as the path to escape this cycle. It has gained significant following on Eox, where the dying seek immortality through undead transformation.
Edicts: Don't die before the ritual, spread undeath
Anathema: Destroy undead creatures, worship Pharasma
The Cycle
Type: Faith and Philosophy
This philosophy centers on the cosmic cycle of creation and destruction. Adherents believe the universe undergoes endless cycles of ignition and entropy, with these opposing forces interconnecting all existence. Many solarians embrace this teaching, using meditation and training to channel both creative and destructive cosmic energies.
Edicts: Cultivate your own cosmic spark, embrace vitality and void as one, meditate on the nature of the Cycle
Anathema: Create imbalance in a system, participate in unnatural destruction of stellar bodies, resist natural cycles
Notes
Divine Sanctification
Starfinder 2E introduces divine sanctification options:
- Holy: Can be chosen by good-aligned deities' clerics
- Unholy: Can be chosen by evil-aligned deities' clerics
- Must choose: Required for certain deities (Hylax requires holy, Urgathoa requires unholy)
- None: Some deities offer no sanctification (Pharasma, Triune)
Favored Weapons
Many SF2E deities offer two favored weapon options, typically one technological and one traditional, allowing clerics flexibility in their choice of armament.
Philosophy Mechanics
Philosophies typically provide fewer mechanical details than full deities. Players choosing a philosophy may need to work with their GM to determine appropriate domain access and other character creation options.
