INFOSPHERE RESEARCH

Benefits

  • Information discovery significantly easier
  • Access to vast databases
  • Quick research checks

Risks

  • Critical Failure: Surveillance risk
  • Digital footprint tracked
  • PF2E characters may lack knowledge to avoid security pitfalls

Skill Options

  • Computers (primary)
  • Society (social research)
  • Appropriate Lore skills

CRAFTING IN SF2E

Creator Capsules

  • 3D printing technology
  • Hours instead of days
  • Available in most settlements

Fabricator Feat

  • Streamlines consumable creation
  • Faster replenishment

UPBs (Universal Polymer Base)

  • Primary crafting material
  • Also functions as currency
  • 1,000 UPBs = 1 Bulk

Formula Costs

Item LevelFormula Cost
Level 05 sp (collective maker's app)
Levels 1-31-3 gp
Levels 4-65-13 gp
Levels 7-1018-50 gp
Levels 11-2070-3,500 gp

Serum Crafting

  • SF2E equivalent of alchemy
  • Creates serums (potions equivalent)
  • Uses tech materials

RECOVERY ACTIVITIES

Treat Wounds

  • Removes wounded condition
  • Heals HP
  • No significant SF2E changes

Rest

  • Full night's rest: decrease doomed by 1
  • Full HP + 10 min rest: remove wounded

RETRAINING

When Needed

PF2E characters may want to retrain:

  • Incompatible skill feats
  • Rune-dependent abilities
  • Alchemy feats (convert to tech crafting)
  • Scroll/wand-focused options (convert to spell gems/chips)

GM Options

  • Allow Piloting/Computers skill training at character creation
  • Fast-track retraining for cross-system characters
  • Allow retraining opportunities as characters encounter new technology

Alternative Skill Solutions

Until characters retrain:

  • Piloting: Use Perception or Survival
  • Computers: Use Crafting or Thievery

POST-SCARCITY CONSIDERATIONS

Abundant Leisure

  • More downtime opportunities
  • Better access to entertainment
  • Richer social networks

UPGRADING EQUIPMENT

Equipment Grades

Equipment typically comes in seven grades:

  1. Commercial (baseline)
  2. Tactical
  3. Advanced
  4. Superior
  5. Elite
  6. Ultimate
  7. Paragon

Upgrade Requirements

Upgrading an item by one grade requires:

  • Crafting Check: DC equal to the finished product's item level

With Formula

  • Cost: UPBs equal to half the price difference between grades
  • Time: Multiple crafting days

Without Formula

  • Cost: Full price difference
  • Time: 1 day

REPAIR ACTIVITIES

Repairing Broken Items

  • Requires Crafting skill
  • Takes time based on item complexity
  • Materials required (typically UPBs)

Broken Condition Effects

  • Broken items cannot be used normally
  • Don't grant bonuses (except armor)
  • Broken armor still provides AC bonuses but applies status penalties:
    • Light armor: -1 penalty
    • Medium armor: -2 penalty
    • Heavy armor: -3 penalty

SUMMARY

SF2E downtime activities differ from PF2E primarily in:

  • Speed: Creator capsules dramatically accelerate crafting
  • Information: Infosphere provides rapid research with surveillance risks
  • Cost: Formula access is cheap and widely available
  • Technology: Equipment upgrades and repairs use tech materials (UPBs)
  • Adaptability: Characters from PF2E need time to learn new skills (Computers, Piloting)

The post-scarcity setting enables more efficient downtime use while introducing new risks (digital surveillance) and opportunities (rapid prototyping, vast information networks).
